Palcomix Writer of the Month - Sonicfrank

Introduction

SonicFrank may not be as well known as some of our previous interviewee's but he's continued to come up with some scripts that have piqued the interest of many, including me. Let's get to know this great writer!

Hi SonicFrank! Thanks for agreeing to be my fourth interviewee!

The honor's all mine! I'm very fortunate to have been reached out to by you.

When did you first work with PALComix? How did you come to know about PAL?

I first worked with the PALComix team way back in 2010, when I reached out to Bbmbbf about a certain comic script involving Mina Mongoose. I'm not sure I recall exactly how I found PAL, but I'd bet plenty of cash that it had something to do with Rule 34!

What was your first comic? Can you tell us about it?

My first comic was Betrayal. It stars two of my top-favorite Sonic characters, Mina Mongoose and (spoiler alert) Anti-Sonic. I saw what authors like Dakina and Count Drunku were doing, and I developed an interest in providing a comic script that was much different to the norm. I wanted to get into the minds of the characters, I wanted it to be emotional, I wanted the readers to feel, not just fap. And I also wanted to loosely place the story within the timeline of the Archie Comics!

Do you think you would write it differently now than then?

Yes. But not by much. Mostly I would have bit the bullet and purchased a few more pages to flesh out the story, as upon retrospect, everything in the final product seems a bit rushed. A page or two added to the sex scene wouldn't hurt either!

How do you decide which show to make a parody of?

It has to be a franchise that I love. I have to have a strong understanding of the characters, and there has to be a pre-established connection between them in the lore. So far, I've only made comic scripts for Sonic and Pokčmon, but that's barely scratching the surface; I love a whole lot more!

What attracted you to Sonic?

The blue speedster's been my favorite character since I was a kid! I could spend hours talking about why I adore him, but in the case of Betrayal, it was the established history and connection between the characters that made me choose Sonic to make a comic script about.

What other series are you attracted to?

Pokčmon of course, as I'm the author of the Wet Dreams series as well as Secret Bases: Sapphire Version. Digimon also has a special place in my heart; I'd love to write a comic script about it some day! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman, Teen Titans. Avatar: The Last Airbender. Oh and I love Zelda; especially Twilight Princess (Gamecube Version for Lefty Link!).

What are your favourite story themes / fetishes in your comic?

Emotionally driven plots, blowjobs, undressing scenes, and lots of inner monologue. I'm a stickler for detail and keeping the characters involved true to their established selves. I want the readers to feel the characters' personalities shining through! So I make strong efforts to be accurate to the source material.

Peanut butter or jelly? Which is best?

Peanut Butter. Hands down. This question made me hungry.

What was your favourite comic you've written so far? Why?

I've written one that's in development that I think might be my favorite! That's something for PokčPorn fans to look forward to. But of the ones that are available so far, it's a toss-up between the two current Betrayals. There's something about the monologues, characters and the inevitable heartbreak at the end that really sticks out to me. Scourge (Anti-Sonic) fulfills the porn aspect of the comics, but the girls are really emotionally invested. They have high hopes! And they get shattered. It's painful and sad, but there's a beauty to it that keeps fans (myself included!) wanting more.

Do you have another writer / comic on PAL (not by you) that you really enjoyed reading? Who/What was it?

The Sonic XXX Project is the first PAL comic I ever came across, and I liked that one! Dakina's work stands out as well, since it inspired me to get involved and do my own thing..

Have you ever had writer's block? How do you get over it?

Yes. Time. Time gets me over it. I'm never in any hurry to write comic scripts, and I go over them several times before I submit, making minor and major adjustments until I think they're just right. Getting Writer's Block just reminds me that I need to take a break, and come back to it days or even weeks later with fresh eyes. And by that point I'm not burned out anymore. That usually does the trick!

How has it been working with Bbmbbf and the PAL team?

It's been great! I think Bbmbbf really appreciates my work, and keeps me in line with making sure there's plenty of sex in the stories I write. Otherwise I'd go too crazy on everything else! The artists are great too; I notice they put lots of effort into the tiny details I list for every panel. The PAL team as a whole doesn't get enough credit; they rock! And it's always a pleasure to work with them.

Have you ever co-written scripts with others? How did that go?

Not yet! Although I would most definitely be open to it, if anyone wants to reach out!

What advice would you give to new people who want to write scripts for PAL?

PALComix's main gimmick is porn, but I say, in order to stand out and make a great comic script, don't write porn. Instead, write a story with sex scenes in it. Have the story build up to the sex. Write a comic that tells a narrative; give the characters motive and flaws. Make the sex mean something! If you give the readers a reason to care about the characters, your comic will be remembered. Otherwise it's just porn.

Any exciting projects in the near future?

Yes! The team is currently working on a Pokčmon script of mine involving a particular character that I'm sure fans have been very much looking forward to, and I have the Betrayal 3 script ready to go! I have plenty of ideas for other comics; Sonic, Pokčmon and other franchises alike, so stay tuned!

Do you have a 'waifu' (favourite anime/cartoon female)? If so, who is she?

Probably Mina Mongoose. Yeah, I'm gonna go with her. Karin Kanzuki from Street Fighter has always had a place in my heart too though!

What is the most important element of a good hentai comic?

Pay-off. The most important element is pay-off. Sex needs to be built up, it needs to be rewarding. If there's sex within the first three pages, then it's usually just eye-candy and provides little reason for readers to care about the plot. But if the narrative builds to the sex and the readers are piqued by it, the outcome will be three times as eruptive! Contrary to popular belief, plot has a place in porn. Trust me!

Any last words for your PAL fans?

Hah, you're putting me on the spot here! I'm not sure I have any fans. I'm very approachable though, and always encourage readers of my work to reach out to me and give me their thoughts and critiques. But for anyone who cares to read this, please send all your thanks and credit to Bb and the PAL team. Support them in any way that you can. They work very hard and it's an honor to collaborate with them. If it weren't for Bbmbbf and the squad, there would be no Betrayal or Wet Dreams or anything else I may work on in the future!
