Palcomix Writer of the Month - Kumiko

Introduction

Kumiko is the regular writer of these passages, but as it was her being interviewed, this month's interviewed will be handled by our good friend, Kanbe! Let's see what he can learn about the mysterious Kumiko, aka MaryBell, aka Get off My Fave anime girl!

Okay.....
*Takes a deep breath*
Firstly, welcome to the interview panel and thank you for allowing me to interview you, Kumiko.

And thank you for interviewing me!

Kumiko, you are like.....oh goodness, so amazing. I've known about your for some time and from what I can tell, so has the amazing Palcomix community too! Since you started these interview segments, I decided what better way to treat you than by asking the community for any questions they might have for you, the Queen of Yuri. Are you ready for the hard hitting questions?

Hai…Fire away!

Okay! First question (from me lol) How did you find out about BBMBBF & about Palcomix?

Actually I was introduced by a fellow friend, who used to share his art with me, but then he parked himself permanently on the PAL forum to share his art (this was the old forum) and told me to see all his stuff there. So I registered and signed up. Shortly after that, I saw the old fiction section and began writing repeatedly and helping to critique other's writing. That was when Bbmbbf first noticed me and my first promotion was as a sub mod in charge of the fanfiction section.

That's amazing! It was like you were adopted to the Palcomix family as soon as you joined. Give my thanks to your friend. This actually leads me to my next question. How long have you been helping BBMBBF & his team?

I believe it's been since 2006, which means 13 years thus far.

WOW! Incredible! So you'd be one of the first pioneers to see Palcomix grew and grew over the years. Wicked!

I suppose so.

So then I have to ask....As a fellow fan of BBMBBF & his teams work (as well as most of the people tuning into this interview I got to know.... How does it feel working closely with BBMBBF & his team, Kumiko?

BBMBBF is like a slightly younger brother. He and I are so close...we share lots about ourselves with one another. I don't know most of the PAL team as well, but I still consider them family ...and have bought presents for all of them at Christmas. But BBMBBF is the one I'm really close to...and love him lots!.

Awwww~! This is so sweet~! I love how you describe your relationship with BBMBBF as a little brother.

Well, it is true.

I can believe it 100%. And now for a bad segue to my next question. lol What was your first Palcomix script you wrote for BBMBBF & his crew?

That's easy! It was a script written for my friend actually, and it was called"Tripping the Violet", featuring the girls from Samurai Pizza Cats. People who read it now will see many of my trademark signs in it.

That's cool! You know in retrospect....I can definitely see your signature trademarks, Kumiko. o/////o But I will stop now with my questions or else no one else will get to ask you their burning questions.

Heheheh... alright.

*reaches into the sack of questions* Ahhhhh~ We got our first set of questions from Manwithoutwings19 (MWW). Let's begin with the first question..... “Before Palcomix, When did you by chance got into yuri/lesbian content & how much did you love it for the yuri goddess to bless you?”

Hmm..how to answer...Even as a little girl, I used to – in my mind – ship my fave anime/cartoon girls with other girls. I guess even as a kid, I knew my preference. When I first came to online, most of the hentai was het at first, but I contented myself with nudes until I began to find more and more lesbian content.

MWW’s second question is: “What kind of stories & recent stories are you doing right now?”

Oh a good question. I am writing the sequel to The L3 Club as we speak, and also a couple others including a lesbian romance story about April from Little Tails. As well...I'm working on a lesbian story about Ariel from Little Mermaid and Iori from Idolm@ster with you! There is a fanfic series I need to publish about the pairings from Kobayashi's Dragon Maid getting married and their wedding nights

Holy Cow! That's a lot of stories. I think the community is REALLY looking forward to your L3 sequel. Also this is the first time that I believe the public knows about the story we're working on together. O/////O Gotta say, it's amazing working with you on the Iori x Ariel story, Kumiko.

Thanks. I feel the same. Sometimes it can be fun working with others on stuff.

For sure. Now onto Manwithoutwings19's third question: “Judging from your Yuri Stories that involved Girls' Love, I really dream of it when Girls become true lovers themselves & would marry LGBT Style. What possessed such a beautiful queen (i.e. you) to have an overwhelming imagination to write such delightful, beautiful, harmonious & peaceful Love Stories based on Lesbianism /LGBT Stuff?”

I think my comics come from what I wished for as I grew up. Like most girls I dreamt of a romantic marriage, but in my case, it had to be with a girl, but in my country, I could never have a full blown wedding like that, so that increased my dreaming of a lovely wedding. For me...I love romance and commitment between my girls. I admit I love them having kids too, but I can not not include that, as long as I have commitment between the girls. That to me is a happy ending, I dislike stories where girls just shag and then walk away like it never meant anything. It's not me. Yuri love is about two girls committing and spending their lives together..forever. And I adore that. Happily Yuri After – that's me.

*Claps tremendously* Bravo! Now onto his final question and you'll like this one lol: "Who's your favorite waifu (favorite female anime/cartoon character) & what would be best for a massive marriage to an orgy involving Girls & females only?

Sounds like two questions. Okay...first one.

1) My fave waifu right now is Amanogawa Kirara. 2) I have always wanted to have a huge orgy of Pretty Cures, where some of the groups form lesbian marriages of 3-5 girl marriages. This includes Kirara becoming the dominant wife of HaruHaru, Minamin and Towa-chi...all from Go! Princess Precure! But there are other multi girl groups like the Suite Precure girls.

It seems like MWW wanted to squeeze one more question into his final one. lol But thank you for answering all his questions. Let's break things up for a second, because I got a question for you~

Okay...shoot!

Knowing what you know now, would you change anything (from the story, to the scene, to pretty much anything) in your first comic?

Not likely. Not to sound arrogant, but it worked pretty well. It was short, sweet and contained all that I wanted to have. I would have loved to have done a sequel...and that would have shown their married life.

That's completely understood. Though a sequel would have been pretty cool. [Especially since there hasn't been a Samurai Pizza Cats in a long time.] Oh.....do you hear that? It's the knock of a fan question to you, Kumiko! Actually....it's a little package FULL of questions for you from MasterDragonUnlimited (MDU).

Yaayyyy!

He has 4 questions for you and they're pretty simple and to the point. Lets start with his first question. .... "What is your favorite story you have written, or your favorite story written by another writer?"

By me.... It would be 'On This Day', don't get me wrong,I would improve on it if I could, but it told a love story....and in the way I wanted to for a long time. If I could redo it..I would add much more of their lives.....it would likely double in length though By others, it's hard to say...so many have done stories I've liked – though I loved the Hershey and Creme one – I loved it so much...especially with the idea they would keep seeing one another. I also liked one another Raven and her sister, and such. Then there are all the great writers, some of which I've had the privilege to become friends with and write with... like Alfredo. There was also a funny Sonic one that made a meme joke about my comics, that made me laugh...and feel famous. One more of mine I really like is The L3 Club, because I've always loved big girl, small girl pairings...and I was allowed to let loose on it...and that was well received shockingly.

The stories you pick are ones I also have read personally, and they're really good. MDU's second question is this: "Are you into lesbian stories (novels, TV shows, movies) and/or true yuri anime (like Revolutionary Girl Utena)?"

Yes I am. I read lots of lesbian fiction and fanfiction. Fun fact: Tripping the Violet (the name of my first comic from PAL) was a name play on a famous lesbian romance, Tripping the Velvet. And if there's a show with good yuri content, you know I'm game for it. And what is true yuri anime is speculative, but easy to say, I've seen loads of anime with true outed lesbians in them - Sakura Trick, Strawberry Panic, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Utena, etc. If its there..I'll watch it. NTR, I bought the manga, and never watched the anime. To me, it's not my thing. I didn't like one of the two mains.

If there's ever a new anime that comes out that's 100% yuri, you'll be my go to source to know if it's good or not. MDU's third question: "if you could collaborate with others writers or artist, who would they be and why?"

Well...Alfredo for sure, because his stories are so involved. And well...I'm not sure...all writers have their own formats....so...each one would be interesting, but the trick is, I'm girl/girl love only, so it would limit our stories perhaps. As for artist, I'd love to do a comic with Shadman or perhaps some of the manga kas on pixiv to do a kinky yuri wedding comic. Shad would be someone I could add some of my more extreme kinks in with.

Interesting choices. And now for his FINAL QUESTION! :....."What was the hardest moment or idea when you started to become a writer?"

Limiting myself in length and not including certain kinks. And sometimes...you'll start writing something..but it doesn't work well..so you have to tear the story down and start from the beginning. Many stories changed dramatically from the first idea of the story to the final.

That's very true. And this is actually a good lead in for my next question to you, Kumiko. What was the first fan story you ever wrote that you can remember (both in script writing & in traditional writing)?

First fan script was Vampire Princess Miyu becoming a lesbian prostitute. And first fan story would be either Minky Momo / Pastel Yumi romance or the one about Eleanor molesting Brittany into being her love toy (Chipettes)...thought it was fairly rapey.

Really interesting. Your spooky Chipettes story works well for the month of October. You know...You've been asked some hard hitter questions for a while now. So lets ask some fun questions! How does it feel to be the best & cutest cheerleader for Palcomix, Kumiko?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!

My next question is~ How did you come up with a modified Konota to be your avatar for Palcomix?

Hmm...when Lucky Star came out, everyone including my parents and girlfriend agreed....I was just like Konata in high school...and I really was. So I began to use her to represent me on PAL. In many ways...Konata and I are still much alike...in ways. In fact that's what makes us unique and kind of outsiders. Oh..and we all know she's gay for Kagami. (and vice versa)

First of all, that's so adorable~! Secondly, anybody that knows Lucky Star knows that the Konota x Kagamin ship is canon. So since Konata is your spiritual anime girl I got to ask you this other question. Do you have a fursona?

Hmm...not per se, no.

Gotcha. Well to change things up a bit, I'm going to ask you another PAL fan question to you, Kumiko. This one is from Mhinojos19. Mhinojos19 asks: "What do you feel are the most important things about writing?"

Loving the characters and wanting to give them a happy ending. If you’re doing a story, you should want to continue on from where they were and work out a way that this changes their life...for the better. That's how I almost always see it.

Wise words, Kumiko. Our next question is from, Maou! He writes: "Could you talk about the story behind the creation of Kill la Kill - On Her Majesty's Hentai Service?"

Well.. that's an interesting one. In fact there was a lot going on there. But it all started with Pietro and I talking....and realizing we hadn't done a real good Kill la Kill comic....which was still very popular at this point. So Pietro asked for it to have a variety of fetishes, including lesbian, tentacle and some straight. I'm not good at straight usually, but as a compromise, we decided on shota. And so that was the basic order. Deep fried Yuri with a pinch of tentacle lover and a side of shota. I knew immediately to make all these things happen and keep in the feel, it would have to be bonkers comedy again. So that much I knew.… I also had this grand plan of an epic rap battle between the two royalty OCs of sexual hedonism from recent comics on PAL - that being Maou's Carnal Kingdom Prince and the lady demoness from Alfredo's WITCH comics. I got the contact details from Pietro, and asked both authors' permission and they very kindly both said yes.....and so I was able to do the rap battle like I really wanted...and it worked a treat, I tell you. So I just started writing and writing - I had the very most basic of plots written down, but the story really wrote it self, especially with all the bad puns and silly shenanigans. They just seemed to write themselves. Of course, figuring out how they were going to kill the tentacle monster was important. It had to happen, but....it couldn't be overly serious or it would kill the mood...I think I handled it well (with apologies to Attack on Titan fans ) Over all..it was a fun comic to write and an even better one to see turned into a wacky comedy. Would love to do more like this.

And (for me) all the plot points sounded normal, if Studio Trigger had to make a hentai episode of Kill la Kill. Speaking of the comedy in your comic, I loved it a lot. Which leads me to my next question. What comedy movies (and comedians for that matter) do you like to watch that help influenced your sense of humor?

Hmm.. Comedy stuff that affects me – a lot of British stuff actually, like Fry and Laurie, French and Saunders, Monty Python, and Terry Pratchett's writing. American side, stuff like National Lampoon, Caddy Shack etc.

Nice selection of comedy sources! And now we have a question AND a compliment from Tactician Icarus! Here's what he has to say: "I like the use of humor over the course of the stories you wrote, it gives room for really interesting character dynamics that you just don't get with some of the other comics. Now for my question: Aside from Annie and April, who is your 2nd favorite lesbian ship for the Little Tails series? P.S. It doesn't have to be canon."

Actually...I don't have any strong ship.. Other than making sure April gets to stay true to her lesbian feelings and find and marry a girl. Reality is...Annie loves April...but will never love her in that way. Hence I'd love her to find another girl who will love her back. I actually picture her being with the goth girl a lot...just because I think they'd look cute together. But as for any strong shipping no...I just want April to find a girl who loves her back.

That would be nice to see for April's future. I have another question for you. Do you think writing stories can be different based entirely on your sex?

I'm sure it is...your sexual preference and gender both play a role in what you write. Also your experiences and personal kinks. I have no doubt these all shape how a person's script is written.

Understood. Oh and we got a question from our little fellow in the Palcomix forums, Nitwit. He asks: "Have you ever wrote some pregnant related stories before?"

Um...a ton. Many of my stories and scripts end with pregnancy. I love the idea of two people coming together in love and making a little life. Sadly...I'm not allowed to make it a main part of the story as many PAL and hentai fans do not like pregnant hentai..so it tends to come at the end rather than in the middle where I'd like it. I'd love to do a whole story about a lady making soft love to her preggie wife. Though to be honest...BBmbbf has allowed me to slip it in a lot. Which is kind of him.

Awwww~ That's so nice of BBMBBF to do. Speaking of writing hot stories, we got an interesting question from SolariumF1@re. Solarium writes: "How do you know when it is good enough and you're satisfied with the work to not go back and change sections; is it a matter of experience or knowing what you want from the beginning?"

It all depends. Sometimes it works perfectly from the word go, other times it takes several rewrites. It just means...I feel at peace with the story. I'm happy with what happens in the story and I'm ready to see it made into a comic.

You know doing a lot of story writing must require a lot of brain power. What are some things you like to do to relax before, during, and/or after writing?

Well...honestly, I don't find writing overly stressful, if I do, I break from the story for a while, and come back with a clear head. However, often before writing a whole story, I'll watch episodes of the anime/show, even if I know it really well, so the characters and feeling of the show are fresh in my mind. I also often spend time imagining the story out in my head before I start writing so I have ideas of what I want to include. Usually before I write, I write a condensed form of the plot I intend to write so I can keep all the ideas in my head. However, I find often the plot changes by the time I finish writing, so what I planned at the start is not 100% what we get in the end. Example, for the Palvengers comic, at the end, my avatar was supposed to escape in a rocket piloted by Patty from Candy Candy, but by the time I finished I felt that just extended the story unnecessarily, the ending I had was far better. During writing, I like to play music, sometimes of the series, sometimes just other stuff, so I can hum along with the stuff as I write. After? well....I just like to pass the story around...get some thoughts on it, and make final changes before I send it to PAL to start the creation of the comic proper. Then I wezzie wape all the anime girls into Happyville. (Just kidding)

That's wicked. And you were mentioning that you play music when you are writing. Do you have any music you would like to recommend when making stories?

I think music is subjective...but I like Tom Waits, Warren Zevon and Andrew Lloyd Webber stuff myself. Also I have a nice Sailor Moon music box instrumental CD...and a Ghibli one. Those really help with writing.

Thank you for the suggestions, Kumiko. Before I ask you some final questions, we got one more PAL fan that wants to ask you two questions. And that person is Raymond (who's also the PSC assistant manager). His first question is: "What series (anime, manga, or any other kind of media) do you like the most and why? "

That's easy...Pretty Cure...it's about various types of girls from all walks of life who come together to protect family and friends (and even strangers) from those who would seek to harm them..and they kick ass. It doesn't hurt that they're all really cute too. But there are so many different types...that I'm sure there is a pretty cure who would appeal to every person. I'm a HUGE Precure fan. I should mention....my last few waifus have largely been precures. XD Kirara, Hibiki and Nagisa. Oh...and for live action shows..it's gotta be Doctor Who. I've loved that since a little girl..since my Dad watched it all the time. My fave doctor remains number 2, Troughton.

Ooooooo~ You're a pre-8th doctor fan. Nice! His second question is: "If you had no budget and can continue to write for PAL till the end of time, what would it be (A trilogy, a multiple volume novel), And why?”

It would be a nice long series about each lesbian couple (in my mind) from every series of Precure falling in love, getting married, making babies and of course lots of yummy Yuri sex. And since each chapter is long..by the time one or two stories are done, a new Precure series would have started...with potential for new couples. It would be a Yuri romance epic that would never end.

DANG~! It's like a taco, within a taco, inside of a Taco Bell, inside of a KFC, inside of a mall, inside of a dream! We're near the home stretch with these questions. Are you ready for them?

Hai!

Okay! Do you have a favorite original eroge or hentai that you like?

Certain Cream Lemon episodes and there's one hospital one where a lady becomes a futa and impregnates all four of her nurses. I like a lot of stuff by Gambler Club and Uchiyama Aki. Morinaga Milk is not hentai per se, but her love stories about girls are wonderful and her love making scenes, though brief are hot. Oh...and I've played lots of eroge..but my fave..despite being extremely hetero...was Katawa Shoujo...addictive and heart warming.

You watched Cream Lemon!?? So have I! My favorite ones are Pop Chaser and Escalation. ^/////^ So my next question is~.... How does one worship the onna bum?

Softly and gently... One must devote much time to the exploration and love making of an onna bum. Kissing the outer part before moving inwards… Then you bury your face between the cute cheeks and go to town.

Thank you for thy answer my queen. Now I have the big one, the ginormous one, the QUESTION OF ALL QUESTIONS!!!!!...… How many hugs does a cute girl get?

There are some things in this universe that are beyond our ability to count, like stars in the sky and sand on a beach. Hugs for a cute girl are much the same.

An answer that ends this interview nicely. Kumiko, once again I can't thank you enough for having me interview you. This is one of the most interesting interviews I have ever done in my life! You are a wonderful person in every shape and forum. And you are also a terrific friend and sister. Lastly, I'm happy to hear that you're feeling a lot better now. For the final question, do you have any last final words you’d like to say to the viewers?

Thank you for reading my stuff and hope you'll enjoy future stuff. Please do give me any feedback, as it helps me to work on future stuff. Love you all lotsa....*kiss*

May the Yuri be with you.
